Our Area Rug Care and Maintenance Tips
We’ve assembled some general recommendations below for keeping your area rugs looking clean and feeling like new.
Always consult the maintenance and care information provided by your area rug manufacturer for more specific guidelines that pertain directly to your rug.
Area Rug Stains and Spills
Some area rugs have stain-resistant treatments that improve your ability to clean stains, but not prevent them. Similarly, rugs with soil-resistant treatments reduce the rate of soiling, but all area rugs require regular care and maintenance.
When a spill happens, act quickly. Use warm water and a gentle detergent. Blot the spill with a clean cloth, but don't rub! Be sure to blot the area dry with a separate cloth, taking care not to leave the carpet saturated.
If you need to use a cleaning product on a stain, make sure it is manufacturer-approved. Never use bleach on your area rug!
Preventative Maintenance
For preventative maintenance, remove your shoes before walking across your area rug. You should also place doormats at all entrances to keep dirt from being tracked across your new area rugs if shoes aren't removed.
Vacuum your area rug at least weekly (if not more often) to pull up any dirt and debris. If you don't vacuum regularly, dirt particles can get ground into your rug's fibers and damage your rug over time.
